What is the main goal?

Let’s talk here about test automation of slots game. Every year gaming industries spend millions of dollars for developing of their games. And more than ~40% of engineers that involved in this process are manual QAs that perform daily routine repeatable testing of the same games. Why does it happen? The reason is that automation testing video games is not an easy process. And it requires significant knowledge and skills in developing of complex systems, based on computer vision and artificial intelligence. It takes companies to the situation when it is impossible to find the ways how to automate the testing process in the company and the only way to have stable releases of the games – hire more QAs.

But the math here is super easy. Let’s imagine that for delivery of 5 slots games during 1 week company requires 5 QAs, who will perform deep functional testing on the different environments. It means, that if company want to scale the livery of the games – it requires also scaling QA team proportionally.

But wait, most of Slots games have similar behaviour. So, why not to automate this process using smart technologies of computer vision.

What we did here?

We have used advanced approaches and techniques of Computer Vision, using OpenCV, Selenium and Python to implement the algorithm that knows how to differentiate each of the slots and find the winning combinations and make possible test automation of slots games. Additionally, you can see that there are also interactions with control elements, that allow to start the game. 
Below is another example of another game with detailed explanation and also example of the possible bug, which can be caught automatically.

1) identify the area with slots;
2) identify each slot separately;
3) calculate the differences between the slots;

As you can see, here, on Testpic we fully automated the process of testing casino slots games. After we executed ~100 execution we found that accuracy of these tests is around 97%, it means that in 3% something might go wrong and the test will be failed.
